As Julia Morgan once said, "Architecture is a visual art, and the buildings speaks for themselves", all buildings have stories to tell. Whether they still stand to this very day, or only their remains giving us a glimpse of their magnificence back in their days. Ruins are remains of an old building. I find ruins fascinating for the reason that they tell the most stories, since they have been through so much. From its walls, to its floors, each tells us tale of what it used to be.
Here are the top 7 ruins that I think is a must visit:
5: STONEHENGE
Its purpose may still be subjective to us, but Stonehenge has never failed to catch the attention of people. Hence, the flock of never ending tourists that goes there. Stonehenge is located in Wiltshire, England and has stood there since 3000 BC (according to Radiocarbon dating done by researchers.). Stonehenge was produced by a culture that left no written records. With its purpose unclear, Stonehenge is no stranger to conspiracy theories, and its association extraterrestrial beings. That is what makes them more interesting for me. As someone who is intrigued by ruins and ETs this is hitting two birds with one stone.

4: THE RUINS
Located in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, The Ruins has become a popular tourist attraction here in the Philippines. The sugar baron's mansion was a sign of his unwavering love for his wife which was burned due to world war 2. You can tell from its architecture that this mansion was designed to tell the love story of Don Lacson and Doña Braga. Fortunately, the ruins of this mansion is being preserved by their lineage. I have recently visited the mansion itself (I have another blog post for this, if you want, you can check it out) and I immediately fell in love with it. The ambiance and environment was perfect. The tour guide is even one of their descendants, and the whole crew was accomodating.

3: THE PARTHENON
The Parthenon is a former temple dedicated to the goddess Athena, the patron of Athens. Located in Athenian Acropolis, Greece. It has stood for as long as 438 BC. The Greeks never fail to amaze everyone with their culture, specifically their Art. Its architecture and engineering is very classy. It was said that this temple was used by the people to get closer or to somehow connect to the goddess. Its design was to really awe the visitors of this temple. If you are a fan of Greek history, then you should really visit this place.

2: THE COLOSSEUM
You might be familiar of this place if you have watched Gladiator or if you have played Assassin's Creed. The Colosseum, also known as Flavian Amphitheater is situated just east of east of the Roman forum. Back in its days, gladiator fights and public spectacles were held here. The Colosseum was designed to hold between 50,000-80,000 spectators. I have seen it pictures and films, and it awes me already. It makes you imagine about all the gladiators who fought for their lives inside that amphitheater. This building is the perfect presentation of classical Roman period when people rode horses, and social division was prominent.

1: POMPEII
I am literally in love with this place. Ever since I saw the movie "Pompeii", this has been number 1 in my bucket list. Pompeii was a thriving town-city in Italy until Mount Vesuvius erupted and engulfed the whole city. I really like this place because it gives me a peek on what their life was like, back in the day. Visiting a whole town in ruins is really an exciting idea.
